KARACHI: The press conference of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, organised at the residency of PTI leader Imran Ismail on Saturday, was marred by chaos when Khan replied in a taunting manner to a question posed by a media representative.

As per details, during the question and answer session of the press conference, a media representative asked that ‘if you claim that there is no militant wing in PTI then why did your activists misbehave with journalists at the Jinnah International Karachi Airport, when journalists were doing their job?’ Replying to the question, Khan, in a taunting tune, replied, “My activists misbehaved, but did not commit any terrorist act and I also faced the same situation at the airport.”

After that the activists started chanting slogans and misbehaved with journalists, which resulted in a massive disorder at the press conference. Some of the activists also tried to push down journalists from the chairs.

In response, all the media representatives boycotted the press conference and also staged a sit-in protest in front of Imran Ismail’s residence for a short period of time.

Earlier, speaking at the press conference Khan said, “Despite numerous conflicts, we are ready to support the federal government in order to restore peace in the country.” Free judiciary can strengthen democracy and would be helpful in free and fair election, he said, adding that they want to strengthen the Supreme Court. The PTI chief appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take notice of rigging in election 2013. He further asserted that on August 21, PTI will issue white papers against rigging. Khan also expressed reservations regarding returning officers.

He demanded deployment of army personnel at polling stations and polling booths in the upcoming by-election.

Khan added that they were demanding the Election Commission of Pakistan to recount votes at four constituencies with verification of thumbprints. He further said that the assassination of PTI leader Zehra Shahid Hussain was done due to speech of Murrahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain. “Despite passing of months, the culprits have not been arrested,” he said, adding that party activists are still receiving threats. “Karachiites have shown bravery in election,” Khan added.
