Pakistan Press Foundation

ISLAMABAD: The code of conduct for live coverage by the electronic media in Pakistan may get a final shape and be implemented after the Sikandar episode in Blue Area of Islamabad as the Supreme Court is taking up an important case on the subject today (Monday).

The much talked about code of conduct for electronic media has never been implemented by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and during the past five years, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government also only issued statements regarding code of conduct rather than enforcing it.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also blamed the media for the delayed action. Legal experts say that the SC may give deadline to Pemra to implement the code of conduct for live coverage so that any incident like Blue Area firing does not happen again.

Advocate Tariq Asad who has filed the constitutional petition no 47/2013 in which he also highlighted that Zamarud Khan should not be portrayed as a hero as his act could never be termed as part of a strategy.

He criticised Zamarud Khan’s intervention saying that his attempt was against the principles and strategy of the operation.
