Prime suspect arrested in connection with murder of  journalist Hasnain Shah

Police have arrested the prime suspect in connection with the murder of Capital TV crime reporter Hasnain Shah, who was killed by  gunmen outside the Lahore Press Club on January 24.  According to police, Shah was killed because of a financial dispute with a jeweller in the provincial capital, Express Tribune reported.  Shah was struck by seven bullets to his chest after the gunmen opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

According to The News, a criminal complaint was registered by Shah’s widow Mehwish Hasnain Shah at the Civil Lines Police Station in Lahore.  Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar as well as the provincial inspector general of police took notice of the incident.

Speaking to Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), Capital TV Bureau Chief Shadab Riaz condemned Shah’s murder. He said Shah, who was a senior crime reporter and covered many stories including the recent blast in Anarkali Bazaar.   Riaz said none of Shah’s recent stories were critical or sensitive.  Lahore Press Club President  Azam Chaudhry strongly condemned the incident calling the murder “a tragic event in the history of Lahore”.
