KARACHI: The two-member committee headed by Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar on Thursday issued notices to the respondents on the application filed against the programme aired by ARY channel about immoral activities on the premises of Mazar-i-Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The committee issued notices to ARY director, Director Programme, secretary Ministry of Information, Home Secretary, Pemra, chief engineer, administrator of Mazar-i-Quaid. Earlier, applicant Saleem Akhtar contended that ARY channel telecast a programme about the ongoing immoral activities on the premises of the Mazar-i-Quaid on Feb 22, 23, 2014 and then on March 7, 2014. The applicant held the view that the ARY channel telecast the programme with ulterior motives and through, the channel damaged the name of the founder of Pakistan not only in the country but also at global level.

He said that it was the responsibility of the chief engineer and administrator of the mausoleum of founder of the country to protect the sanctity of the place. However, the chief engineer and administrator in connivance with the chief engineer and administrator presented the programme which brought bad name to the country. He said that it was the responsibility of the Pemra and other institutions to initiate proceedings against the channel but they did not fulfil their duty as per requirement. The applicant appealed to the court that orders might be passed to the channel to remove the programme from its website and the home secretary and ministry of information to act against the channel officials and the chief engineer and administrator of the Quaid’s mausoleum.
