Pakistan Press Foundation

Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Pakistan is chalking out a climate change adaptation and mitigation policy for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. “The policy document which is in final stage would provide a blue print for both adaptation and mitigation actions for climate resilient development of KP,” said Hasan Akhtar Rizvi, Chief Knowledge Officer LEAD Pakistan.

Talking to media Hasan Rizvi said LEAD has been entrusted with formulation of KP’s provincial climate change (CC) policy through analysis of secondary and primary data, consultation with relevant stakeholders and in line with the priorities of the National Climate Change Policy. “It is an initiative of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) of KP which had earlier established a Climate Change and MEAs (Multilateral Environment Agreements) Cell.

Rizvi said this is one of the projects being carried out by the Climate Change Cell of EPA KP and apart from the provincial Climate Change Policy the project also aims to make provincial Action Plans for MEAs. LEAD Pakistan was the organisation selected to formulate both the provincial Climate Change Policy and MEAs Action Plans through a process of open bidding. In response to a question, he said, the Policy is almost ready and we are currently working on the Action Plans.
