SC to make public media commission’s report
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday announced to make public the media commission’s report regarding the accountability of media persons.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, had constituted a two-member Media Accountability Commission of Justice (r) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Javed Jabbar. The commission was formed on the request of petitioners Hamid Mir, Absar Alam and Asad Kharal, as well as other petitioners. The commission’s terms of references (ToRs) cover media accountability – including corruption charges – and media independence and its impediments.
During the hearing, the auditor general of Pakistan submitted a report about the secret fund of the Information Ministry, which was given to 282 journalists. The bench also issued notices to 19 departments who were reluctant to hold audit of their secret fund, and adjourned the hearing for 10 days.
