Roundtable to mark ‘electronic media freedom day’ today

KARACHI ,February 09 2005: Prominent representatives of electronic-media, academia, civil society and professional specialists from different parts of the country are participating in the roundtable being convened by the Citizens’ Media Commission of Pakistan at Avari Tower from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Karachi on February 9. The roundtable has been convened to mark Electronic Media Freedom Day.

The Day has been observed regularly since February 1998 to focus public attention on the importance of freedom of expression in Radio and TV and to campaign for policy reform.

The roundtable will review the current electronic media scene in the country with special reference to new developments in the past 12 months, including the work rendered by Pemra to-date, and new issues and problems that have emerged in the past four years.

Former chief justice, and Commission Chairman Dr Nasim Hasan Shah will preside, while Commission Convenor and former information minister Javed Jabbar will conduct the discussion.

The roundtable is being organised by the Commission with the support of Pakistan office of the German Foundation Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
