Pakistan Press Foundation condemns the assault and detention of blogger and photographer in Bahrain

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), an independent non-governmental institution committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression is concerned over the assault and detention of blogger Mohamed Hassan and photographer Hussain Hubail. They have been held since 31 July by the government.

Quoting the information from Reporters Without Borders (RSF), PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in a letter to the King of Bahrain said, “Both Hassan and Hubail were charged on 21 August with “managing (electronic) accounts calling for the government’s overthrow,” promoting and inciting hatred against the government, inciting others to disobey the law, and calling for illegal demonstrations. Hassan and Hubail, who are still awaiting trial, are also charged with “contributing to the Twitter account of the 14 February media network (@Feb14Media).”

Unquote.

PPF condemns the assault and detention of Hassan and Hubail and calls on the authorities to make the immediate release and withdraw the cases against them.
