ISLAMABAD: Private TV channels who were deprived of covering the proceedings of the Supreme Court’s full court reference have submitted their replies with the additional registrar of the apex court on the issue.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court reporters from different private TV channels submitted their replies before Additional Registrar Muhammad Ali who was appointed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani to inquire into the matter after taking suo moto issue.

Reporters stated in their answers that when footage of the full court reference was being telecast on a private TV channel, the administration of their channels also asked them that why they had not arranged the footage.

On this, the reporters contacted SC Registrar Dr Faqeer Hussain, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Shahid Kombio and secretary of the former chief justice to get the footage.

As per the reply of the reporters, the CJ’s secretary replied that Geo TV has the footage and it could be obtained from it, while the registrar and PRO said that no one was given permission to take the footage of the full court reference.

Reporters raised the questions that if no one was permitted to take the footage then who made the footage of the reference and how did it reach a private TV channel? They said they have no differences with any TV channel, but they were annoyed at the discriminatory behaviour with them.

They said, “If no one was allowed to cover the proceedings then one specific TV channel should not have been given permission also, because our TV channels telecast the footage by cutting it from a private TV channel.”

They stated, “Reality is that other private TV channels still do not have that footage so this matter should be investigated and those responsible should be identified.”Reporters of some TV channels did not submit their replies, and the additional registrar directed them to submit their answers by tomorrow (Thursday). The additional registrar adjourned the hearing of the inquiry till tomorrow (Thursday) 11:00am.
