Press Club office-bearers elected unopposed

ISLAMABAD, April 18: The Journalists Panel maintained its hold over the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club (RIPC) for another term when all its candidates were declared successful without any contest.

“The RIPC elections for the year 2007-08 are complete and all the candidates belonging to the Journalists Panel are being declared elected unopposed,” says chairman of the election committee Ijaz Malik in a press release.

Mr Malik declared the Journalists Panel candidates as successful when five candidates for the offices of vice-president, three candidates for the offices of joint secretary and 15 candidates for the governing body withdrew their papers on Wednesday, which was the last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers. The polling was scheduled to be held on April 22.

Following are the elected office-bearers of the RIPC for the year 2007-08:

Mushtaq Minhas (president); Afzal Butt (secretary general); Asim Rana (finance secretary); Aroosa Alam, Jamil Mirza and Siddeeq Sajid (vice-presidents); Jahangir Minhas, Mazhar Tufail and Naveed Akram (joint secretaries) and Mohammad Qamash, Abdul Khalid Khattak, Nasir Chishti, Saqlain Abbas, Saqib Raja, Syed Gulzar Saqi, Ali Akhtar, Ali Raza Alvi, Mumtaz Bhatti, Aziz Malik, Farid Ahmed Khan, Shahzad Malik, Ishaque Chaudhry, Waheed Sheikh and Asghar Ali Mubarak (members Governing Body).
