Supreme Court Bar Association apologises to journalists over manhandling

ISLAMABAD — The Supreme Court Bar Association President Munir A. Malik on Wednesday apologised to the media over manhandling of journalists during nationwide protests.

He was addressing a press conference in Supreme Court after the adjournment of the presidential reference.

He said in such critical circumstances, there must be a deep relationship between the media and the lawyers and both are struggling equally for the same cause.

He said journalists are spreading their voice across the world and genuine lawyers do not ever think of misbehaving with journalists.

He said there are Mir Jafirs and Mir Sadiqs in our lines, which the Chief Justice himself pointed out during his address in Hyderabad. He said there are some black sheep and history has shown whenever there is a movement taking place, it is sabotaged through informers and agents, terming them as ‘black sheep.’

He said such people were attempting to provoke the media against the lawyers’ movement. Their real agenda is to divert the lawyers from their standpoint.

He said he and his colleagues apologise for manhandling of the journalists. Their real agenda is to divert the lawyers from their standpoint.

He announced that if the journalists would accompany them on April 21, the Supreme Court Bar Association would provide them transport and in this regard journalists of Islamabad/Rawalpindi may provide the names of the journalists who wish to go with them to Peshawar.

Responding to a question he said, he would call the judges to resign as protest but at the appropriate time.

He said he has already received many resignations, which are with them but he would disclose them only if required.
