Govt, lawyers asked to stop violence against journalists

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has expressed its concern over the increasing incidents of violence against journalists while performing their duties since March 13, especially in and around the courts premises.

The journalists were manhandled and their equipment were damaged in different incidents in Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and some other towns, said a press release issued by the union on Wednesday. The PFUJ said that it respected all other professional bodies and always strived for truth and right causes in the best national interest. The struggle of working journalists for national causes and freedom of expression is well documented in the history of Pakistan, it added. The PFUJ has asked not only the government, but also the professional bodies of lawyers such as PBC, SCBA, and provincial and district bar associations to ensure the respect of all journalists covering the protest demonstrations.
