PPF protests over attack on Honduran journalist, supports call of IAPA

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), an independent non-governmental institution committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression concerned over the recent attack on Honduran journalist, Nery Adalberto Recarte on November 11, 2013 and supports call for implementation of protective measures

Quoting the information from Inter American Press Association (IAPA), PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in a letter to the President of the Republic of Honduras said, Quote “Nery Adalberto Recarte, a journalist of Canal 34 television and La Popularísima radio station located in Siguatepeque, Comayagua province, was injured along with his driver in an attack, when some unidentified assailants shot him outside the building of broadcast stations. A formal complaint of incident was filed with the Criminal Investigation National Office. IAPA supported protective measures for Recarte, requested to Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) by the Inter-American Human Rights System”.

PPF supports demand for implementation of protective measures for Recarte and urges the government to investigate the matter to ensure press freedom and end to impunity by bringing the perpetrators to justice.
