PML-Q MPA Bano Sagheer ‘harassed’

KARACHI: A member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, MPA Bano Siddiqui, was harassed by unidentified men near the airport on Friday. Both she and the chief minister have said that they suspected Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) activists were behind it.

Siddiqui told Daily Times that she was going home to Malir with her husband, Major Sagheer Siddiqui, after a meeting at Chief Minister House. Her husband was driving the car and some people on a motorcycle, “who looked like Jamaat-e-Islami activists,” pulled up next to their car at a signal.

“There were also some people in a car that accompanied the motorcycle. They got out and tried to kidnap us but we started screaming and they left. They beat us up as well,” Siddiqui said. “Before they left they said that I would never make it out of my house to vote on Saturday.” Siddiqui added that she would lodge an FIR against the unidentified men. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, during a meeting Friday night, also suspected that the JI was behind this attack. An FIR had not been lodged at the time this report was filed.
