ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid assured the journalists on Tuesday that the government was sincere in resolving their problems and would take all possible steps to facilitate them. “Soon after coming to power our government completed the process of formation of 8th Wage Board Award. Now I assure you that we will also solve your other problems,” he said talking to journalists, who had staged a sit-in outside the Parliament House here in favour of their demands. He said a roadmap in consultation with the leadership of journalist community would be prepared to resolve all their problems.

The minister said Pakistan had now a functioning democracy and there was no need to organise sit-ins to press for demands. “The time has changed and the method to protest should also be changed,” he added.

He said the problems of journalists, politicians and general public were the same as all were victims of terrorism.

He said work on housing colonies for journalists in Islamabad and Lahore had been completed while it was underway in Multan and Sargodha.

He said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would soon announce a plan for provision of shelter to all Pakistanis.

Earlier Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists’ leadership called for steps to resolve problems being faced by the journalists.

Pakistan People’s Party leaders Rehman Malik and Shazia Marri, and Syed Asif Hasnain of Muttahida Qaumi Movement also addressed the journalists.
