Parents’ awareness of media emphasized

KARACHI – Parents should be media-literate to develop healthy personality of children. Media awareness is imperative for parents to distinguish what is suitable to allow the children to see on media and what can produce negative impact on their personality.

This observation was made by speakers at a seminar on ‘Media Impacts on Children and Responsibility of Parents’ organized by ‘Endeavour’ on September 1.

They observed that all people involved in the grooming and nurturing of children, specially the parents and teachers, should be well aware of their responsibilities for positive character building and healthy personality of children. They emphasized on creating a productive and constructive environment for healthy grooming of children.

The seminar was part of Media Awareness Programme (MAP) to provide awareness to parents pertaining to the effects of media on children and help them to understand their role as parents.

Director, ‘Endeavour’, Sohail Muhammad Ali, analyzed various and multifaceted effects of media exposure on personality of children and discussed different aspects of media. He observed that television watch neither required any skill, nor it had to do anything with skill development.

He emphasized the need of having a proper children programming on television to help them learn and enhance their information about different subjects. He criticized the unrestricted flow of information on television and said that it provides everything to everyone, without any distinction.
