Pakistan Press Foundation

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela, expressed concern over the attack on journalist Jamel Louka, a correspondent of Diario La Antena.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali, in his letter, urged the Venezuelan government to thoroughly and swiftly investigate the attack.

According to the Instituto Prensa y Sociedad de Venezuela (Press and Society Institute of Venezuela), Loukawas shot at in the Monagas municipality of Guárico state on December 8. The incident took place during the morning hours when the communicator was near Altagracia de Orituco and was intercepted by four men on two motorcycles, who shot at his car four times, two bullets of which impacted the windshield. Loukaescaped unhurt.

The case has already been reported to the Scientific, Penal and Criminalistics Investigations Corps (CICPC) and the public prosecutor’s office.

It is presumed that the attack is related to information published on Monday December 5, 2016, on an event which took place in that jurisdiction, for which he had received threats.

PPF urged the Venezuelan president to not only ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are brought to justice, but also to take steps to ensure complete freedom of expression as enshrined in the Bolivarian constitution.
