Of electronic media and ethics

THIS is apropos of Zubeida Mustafa’s article ‘Television and mental health’ (May 11). I endorse her stance that the electronic media and anchors are instrumental in worsening the state of collective anxiety in the country.

I believe that best solution to this unethical and irresponsible media practices is to stop watching news channels. What can be supplemented to writer’s analysis and assertions is that these channels actively tarnish our image abroad as they are viewed all over the world.

They have painted such a gloomy picture of our country that foreign direct investment has virtually stopped. The big corporations, which use these TV channels for their marketing campaign, must implement corporate social responsibility.

As a protest or as a social responsibility they should stop giving business to these TV channel, pressuring them to adopt some journalistic ethics. The media, which is the fourth pillar of the state, must evolve a comprehensive code of ethics with a special emphasis on the current scenario to keep an eye on unethical practices.
