Two KP journalists embark on peace journey

Peshawar: Two young journalists, Wali Khan and Salman Shahzad from conflict hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Thursday initiated their journey from Peshawar to Karachi to draw attention world community toward the growing security challenges faced by journalists’ community in terrprism affected areas of Pakistan.

The basic aims of their journey on motorbike is to put the security issues and irritants faced by journalists while performing their professional assignments in the country before the world community, rights organizations, government of Pakistan, in conflicted areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA. Saiful Islam Saifi, president Peshawar Press Club and members of cabinet were present on the occasion.

During weeklong awareness journey, both journalists would complete their expedition passing through all major press clubs of the country to reach Karachi.

Talking to journalists before departure, Wali Khan and Salman Shahzad said that the journalists community is the worst affected in the war against terrorism, saying that there was not taken any proactive measures for life and security of the journalists.

They said that according to statistics, more than 40 journalists had lost their lives in line of their professional obligations during last one decade in the country.
