Pemra refuses to obey BHC’s order

QUETTA: In a brazen example of confronting the Balochistan High Court, which issued clear-cut orders on May 19 to suspend the March 2 orders of repatriation of Gul Muhammad Kakar, Acting Chairman Pemra Dr Jabbar has ordered his Balochistan office staff not to hand over the charge to Kakar in any case.

Gul Muhammad Kakar was removed by Dr Jabbar on March 2, 2011 during the telecast of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 after he refused to obey the illegal orders of Dr Jabbar, which were against the clear directions of the Supreme Court.

Gul Muhammad Kakar then challenged his repatriation in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) that issued notices to Pemra through a May 19 (Thursday) order along with suspending Dr Jabbar’s March 2 order of repatriation of Kakar.

Kakar sent his joining report through post to the Pemra Headquarters, Islamabad, and all other concerned offices on May 20 (Friday) in compliance with the BHC’s orders. However, Dr Jabbar ordered the Pemra Balochistan employees to not to hand over the charge to Kakar come what may and, as a result, Gul Muhammad Kakar was visiting his office without any charge or work.

Kakar’s case and humiliation of the BHC’s orders are simply continuation of what is happening in each and every department with respect to verdicts and orders of the superior judiciary. Gul Muhammad Kakar, on being approached by The News, confirmed that he was not given the charge till Wednesday and he was again going to move the Balochistan High Court with a contempt of court application. Kakar said he was not expecting that Dr Jabbar would take the decision personally and confront the judiciary.
