Nazim seeks KU’s help in solving civic problems

KARACHI: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has sought the cooperation of University of Karachi for identifying civic problems with their scientific solution for the future development of the metropolis.

Speaking at a two-day seminar titled ‘Local Government System: Challenges and Operations,’ organized by the Department of Public Administration here on Monday, the nazim said that the city government is ready to finance studies for the identification of civic problems.

He asked students, teachers and scholars to guide the city government by identifying genuine problems and their solutions to improve the overall civic condition of the city.

He agreed that there were some problems in the implementation of present local government system and said that it would become successful with the support of people at all levels.

He informed the gathering that the city government would soon set up a call centre with an estimated cost of Rs180 million, which would work round-the-clock to address the complaints of citizens.

He said that all 18 towns and 178 union councils would be linked with the call centre.

The nazim said that the city government was working on several projects to provide facilities of water, sewerage, roads, flyovers, parks and transport to the people. He said that all ongoing projects will be completed within the next four months.

Other speakers including Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Akhlaq Ahmed and Sindh Ombudsman Yousuf Jamal shed light on the local government system and appreciated the city government’s performance.
