Miranshah radio station begins transmission

PESHAWAR – A radio station in Miramshah, the headquarters of the North Waziristan Agency, has started six-hour regular transmission in the local dialect of Pashto.

The initial transmission of the programmes, which started on August 29, is spread over three hours in the morning (6am to 9am) and three hours in the evening (6pm to 9pm).

This was stated by Fata Director-General (Media) Shah Zaman Khan in Peshawar on August 30. He said the coverage area consisted of 30 kilometres aerial radius and the programmes would be listened by over 50,000 people.

He said that the programmes being broadcast from Miramshah radio station covered religion, development, eradication of social evils from the tribal society, health and education and entertainment.

Mr. Khan said that the radio station has been set up in a three room separate building being manned by four staffers, two each from engineering and programme side.

The Fata DG said the credit for establishing the radio station in Miramshah goes to NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah. He said that another radio station at Razmak in the North Waziristan Agency was expected to go on air within a fortnight.
