Book for journalists to be launched on Sept 2

ISLAMABAD – The Network for Consumer Protection has been launching a handbook/training manual for journalists on human rights on September 2, at a local hotel, British High Commissioner (Acting) Mark Sedwill would be the Chief Guest.

The book ‘Human Rights and Journalism’ was researched and compiled by journalists including Muhammad Asim Butt who remained associated with print media.

The book that could also be used as a training manual was focused at the issues related to the rights of women, children and minorities. It has chapters on how to conduct interviews, investigative reporting, photography, press conference etc.

The book also has a chapter analyzing the human rights news items. Besides it has case studies on honour killing and blasphemy. The book contains chapters on the model news items and best code of practice for journalists.

On the occasion of the launching victims of the human rights violations and delayed justice would narrate their ordeals to the journalists.

The handbook was the outcome of series of training workshops The Network/ British High Commission Islamabad arranged last year in Hyderabad, Peshawar, Multan, Murray and Sargodha.

A total of 111 journalists from adjoining areas belonging to vernacular press underwent training. The aim of the workshops was to promote newspaper reportage of human rights issues in the country.
