Man arrested for ‘staking’ daughter
SAHIWAL, April 06,2005: Yousafwala police raided a gambling den in a roadside hotel late on Monday and arrested a man with his 14-year-daughter offered as stake during the gambling.
Police also arrested five people including two women. The police raided Rehmani Hotel on GT Road near Chak 84/5-L where Muhammad Rafiq, a gambler, had offered his daughter Sonia as stake during gambling with Khurshid.
Rafiq lost the bid and Kurshid asked him to marry Sonia to his son Ghafoor. The police arrested Rafiq, Sonia, Kurshid and his sons Ghafoor and Shakoor, wife Parveen and Rani.
The police said that women were brought from the North West Frontier Province and sold at the hotel. It registered a case under the Gambling Act and the Hudood Ordinance. The arrested had been sent to jail on a judicial remand.
