ISO 9001 certification: Pakistan Software Export Board signs contracts with 22 software firms

ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has signed contracts with 22 local software companies to help them achieve ISO 9001 certification. And subsequently, eight software firms have been selected for consultancy, according to Kashif Amin, Project Manager ISO certification.

Under the programme, PSEB will provide financial assistance to the software houses to achieve ISO standards, hoping to complete the contract by November this year.

With ISO certification the software companies are expected to increase their annual exports by at least 20 percent. The programme has been launched to promote standardisation and quality consciousness in local software companies to promote their export potential, said Managing Director PSEB, Sohail Shahid.

He added, quality has become a slogan in present-day business world and ISO certification will escort organisations to business distinction in the tough and aggressive global market. In future only those IT firms can compete in international markets that would have ISO or CMM certifications. He said that a similar type of programme would be launched by PSEB soon for attaining CMM level certification by the local software companies.

He emphasised that in the global market place, especially, more and more countries were assuming ISO standards as the benchmark to be followed as these help assess the capability to meet customer requirements and address customer satisfaction.

The Board is aiming to help 80 software companies achieve ISO 9001 during this calendar year. In all 108 IT companies have applied for the initiative since November 2001 and 68 companies have submitted the proper registration forms, said Abdul Basit Director Projects.

According to Kashif Amin, project Manager, ISO Certification, contracts have been signed with Gulfnet, E-Tek Solutions, Syscomp, Fair Factor Force, Trivor Soft, Compucraze, E-Strats and Aksa Software from Islamabad, Advance Computing Engineering Solutions and Datels (Pvt) Limited, Rawalpindi, Habib Rafiq Technologies, Descon IT24, Taza Tech, Salient Tech, Nicon Soft, IO-2-IO from Lahore, Gold Soft, Creative Chaos, Sun Soft, Y-Evolve, Millennium Systems and Consultants, Integrated Systems Research from Karachi

The selected 8 IS0 consulting firms include, NUST Quality Management Consultancy Services (Rawalpindi), Price Water Coopers (Lahore), Quality Management Systems 9000 (Islamabad), House of Quality (Karachi), Quality Professionals (Lahore), Qualities Systems (Karachi), Path Finder Consultants (Lahore) and Pakistan Institute of Quality Control.

Contracts for the programme with eight other software companies are expected to be signed within next two weeks, including Software Technology Innovators, Badar Soft from Karachi, Ideal Solutions, ACS, AutoSoft Dynamics, Tower Technologies, SA Soft from Lahore and Digital Processing Systems from Islamabad.
