Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors condemns journalist’s murder
KARACHI- President of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami and Secretary General Mahmud-ul-Aziz have in a joint statement strongly condemned the murder of Journalist Shahid Soomro, who was correspondent of Kawish daily. They urged Sindh Governor Muhammadmian Soomro to order a judicial inquiry into the murder and award exemplary punishment to those found guilty of the murder.
The CPNE has always stood by the principle of supporting the journalists in their right to report objectively on events and any attempts by any person, group or vested interests to seek to suppress objective reporting of events must be resisted by all sections of the press, they added.
Mujibur Rehman Shami and Mahmud-ul-Aziz also urged upon the Governor of Sindh to direct full protection and also to provide immediate substantial monetary compensation to the members of the bereaved family.
The CPNE office bearers also offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and condolences.
