Babysitting uncle rapes and kills 11-year-old

KARACHI, June 14 2006: An eleven-year-old girl was murdered after reportedly being raped while two of her sisters, including an 11-month-old baby, were injured by their uncle in Orangi Town June 13. Shamsuddin, a garment worker and resident of Ghaziabad, Orangi Town, went to the NADRA office along with his first wife and father-in-law for their ID cards. Shamsuddin, who is a Bengali by birth, left his three daughters with Abdul Rehman, his second wife’s brother. A few months ago, Shamsuddin had divorced his second wife, who was deported to Bangladesh. She left her 11-year-old daughter with her ex-husband.

Pakistan Bazaar police told Daily Times that Rehman sent one of his two step nieces, Aqsa, 13, to buy fodder and locked the house from the inside. Aqsa told the police that when she returned after 15 minutes, she found the door locked. She said that she knocked at the door for a while and when her uncle opened the door he suddenly pulled her inside. She said that Rehman had a knife in his hand and Iqra, 11, was lying in the kitchen with blood all over the place.

Aqsa, a class six student, said that she started screaming, on which Rehman attacked her. She said that Rehman thrashed the 11-month-old Aisha, his sister’s daughter, on the floor and attacked her with the knife. Meanwhile, the knife slipped out of his hand and fell to the floor. Aqsa said that she picked up the knife and threw it out of the window. Aqsa said that her uncle then changed into one of her father’s shirts and went out. During this time, Iqra succumbed to her injuries.

Iqra, a student of class five, was found in her school uniform despite the fact that all schools are closed for the summer vacations. Neighbours brought the girls to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Jamshed told Daily Times that the WMLO had taken slides for chemical examinations to confirm whether Iqra was raped or not before being murdered. He added that initial evidence said that the killer had raped her. “The rape case will be registered after the chemical examination report,” he said.

According to police sources Rehman is a hafiz-e-Quran and had recently completed the Gardan, in which the holy book is memorised in seven different ways. Aqsa, the oldest of the three girls, is admitted to Civil Hospital whereas Aisha is hospitalised at NICH. The police said that Aisha is in critical condition. Decomposed body found: The decomposed body of a man was found in Surjani Town June 13. The residents of Maingal Goth informed the police about a partially buried body whose feet were seen sticking out of the ground.

The deceased appeared to be in his thirties. His hands and feet were tied up and his face was covered with a cloth. He was murdered about five days ago. After legal formalities, the police shifted the body to the Edhi mortuary.
