Pakistan Press Foundation

Following a condemnation from the Karachi Bar Association (KBC), renowned Pakistani actor Faisal Quraishi issued a public apology on April 21 via his Instagram account for his portrayal of lawyers in the drama serial “Zulm”, currently airing on Hum TV. The Karachi Bar Association, in a statement issued on April 20, criticized the drama’s depiction of the legal fraternity and demanded a public apology from Quraishi, Hum TV, and its owner, Sultana Siddiqui.

The KBC’s condemnation, signed by General Secretary Ikhtiar Ali Channa and Human Rights Committee Chairman Zahid Hussain Soomro, highlighted the drama’s negative portrayal of lawyers, with Quraishi allegedly using derogatory language against the legal profession. The Association contended that such depictions could damage the reputation of the legal community and called for an apology from all parties involved. The Association also said that it reserved the right to pursue legal action against the aforementioned parties.

Following the KBC’s statement, Quraishi took to Instagram on April 21 to apologize for any offense caused by his role in “Zulm.” He expressed gratitude to lawyer Kaiser Khan Nizamani for reaching out to discuss the issue, explaining that actors follow scripts and do not intend to disrespect any profession. Quraishi acknowledged the legal community’s concerns and expressed regret if anyone was hurt by the drama’s content.

“I’m very sorry if someone was hurt. Personally, I don’t like hurting people, because I am part of this society, and if someone talks about me, I also get hurt,” Quraishi stated in his video message. He noted that he and his co-stars had raised concerns about potentially offensive content during production, and while they tried to avoid inappropriate language, some parts might have slipped through.
