Viewers jubilant at Geo News restoration

AHAMADPUR SHARQIA/VEHARI/BAHAWALPUR/SIKANDARABAD: A wave of jubilation ran through viewers on the restoration of Geo News transmission.

The viewers said Geo News was the best of the bunch while the channel’s transmissions were yet to be restored completely in some cities. The citizens threatened to hold protest if the channel’s transmissions were not restored countrywide.

People in Ahmadpur Sharqia congratulated one another on the opening of Geo News. Presidents of Cotton Geners Association and Ghalla Mandi Chaudhry Khalid Javed, Muhammad Amin, Abdul Jabbar, Muhammad Akbar Abbasi and Haji Shahid said they will get standard and in time news through their favourite channel. They said there was no other news channel like Geo News.

In Vehari different schools of thought expressed delight over the restoration of Geo News. President of District Bar Mehar Sher Bahadir Lak Advocate said restoration of Geo was the victory of the media. He said all channels should demonstrate unity instead of highlighting each other’s faults so that the media could performs its welfare and national role in an independent atmosphere.

He said the steadfastness of Geo, belief in the independence of press and far-sightedness were the reasons for which it was restored.Vice President of Anjuman-e-Tajran South Punjab and President of Vehari Irshad Hussain Shah said public loved Geo. They said the time of trial was over and now they would get true and positive news and the public would not face any difficulty in getting true stories. He said the image of Geo could not be lowered in the public eye. He said the state always became stable with the independence of media.

President of Anjuman-e-Tahafuz Haqooq-e-Kashtkaran Vehari Mehraj Khan Lakwaira said he saw Geo as the frontrunner in the powerful media on the basis of its reporting; therefore, whether it was farmer or any other class all were happy at the restoration of Geo.

On the other hand, Geo transmissions were not restored in District Headquarters Bahawalnagar, Tehsil Haroonabad by the cable operators. However, the transmissions were restored in Tehsil Fort Abbas and Manchanabad.

Several persons, including Qarban Ali, Wasif Shamshair, Sheikh Kamran, Muhammad Akbar, Malik Abdullah and others were happy to view Geo again and said the channel was the strength of cable and without it there was no taste in listening to news.

The citizens demanded immediate restoration of Geo transmissions. Majority of people, especially students, have now started watching Geo transmission on the Internet.The people of Sikandarabad strongly protested against the cable operators for not opening Geo News and threatened to block Multan-Shujaabad Road.
