LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has strongly condemned attack on Pakistan Television (PTV) building during protests of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Islamabad on Monday.

PPP Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo condemned the ransacking of the transmission room of the state television channel by protesters, calling the action condemnable, contemptible and unpardonable.

In a statement on Monday, Wattoo said that workers of the PTI and PAT had damaged the cause of their parties grievously who were projecting themselves as victims of state violence.

He observed that it was not difficult to identify culprits because footage of miscreants was available. These elements should be given exemplary punishment and parties should expel them form their fold as a damage control measure, he added.

Wattoo recalled that the PML-N attack on the Supreme Court building was still afresh in the minds of the people as a black and blemished spot on political career of the party and would remain so for all times to come. The blunder was indefensible and the PML-N deeply repents it but festering wound would never heal, he pointed out.

Drawing an analogy, Wattoo said that the Monday’s attack on PTV building would continue to haunt heavily to parties for unforeseeable future whose workers attacked the state television building.

He said that the state buildings like the Parliament House, Presidency, Prime Minister’s House and the Supreme Court were symbols of country’s prestige and dignity and that it was imperative upon everyone to uphold their sanctity. Belittling the sanctity of these national buildings amounts to anti-state, anti-constitution and anti-democracy activity, he observed.

PPP Punjab Secretary General Tanvir Ashrak Kaira also said in the statement that he condemns in strongest terms attack on the PTV building that led to suspension of transmission of the state channel, asking that what message it had sent to international community of the nation. He said that it gave the impression of agitating parties as being the bunch of misguided elements. He said that the attack on the PTV building had exploded the claims in the face of agitating parties as treading on peaceful procession.

He predicted that this blunder of workers of parties would inflict irreparable political damage on parties whose workers embarked on ransacking the state television. He recalled that the PML-N had not recovered and would never recover from the damage inflicted on it due to its ransacking of the Supreme building. Similarly, he said, the parties whose workers have attacked the PTV building would continue to suffer political damage for all times to come.
