Ex-chief of Press Council clarifies report
ISLAMABAD: With reference to the news item appearing in the Daily Jang and the Daily The News I want to clarify that the notification issued by the information ministry shows the date of my appointment as Chairman on 07-09-2011.
However, on the basis of this order, the cabinet secretariat/Establishment Division issued notification No 1-7(2005-6) dated 13-10-2011 showing my appointment as Chairman Press Council of Pakistan with immediate effect and till further orders.
This notification was to be published in the next issue of gazette of Pakistan part 1. This notification was amended through another notification of even No dated 4 November 2011 to the effect that a period of three years in term of Section 7(3) of PCP Ordinance 2002 may be read in the said notification.
The tenure took effect from the date of publication in the official gazette under Section 7(2) of the PCP Ordinance 2002. However, in order to avoid any complications, controversy of interpretation, I have opted as an abandoned caution not to attend the office from 9th September 2014 and both the official vehicles have been returned by me and same are parked in the PCP offices. This fact can be verified from the official record.
The annual report of the last year and the brochures were distributed across the country including Information Ministry and other government offices long ago and therefore there is no substance in the allegation that i am pressurizing the staff not to release the brochures and annual report.
