Checks on Jang Group not to be tolerated, says Chaapra
PESHAWAR: Former president of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and senior journalist Abdul Hameed Chaapra has said that checks on Jang Group, the biggest media group of the country, will not be tolerated anyway.
He added that no restraints on freedom of expression would be allowed.Chaapra was addressing a ceremony hosted by PFUJ’s Vice President Shamim Shahid at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday.
Denouncing the propaganda against Geo and Jang, Chaapra said that the livelihood of thousands of people was linked to this media group. Therefore, efforts to close down Jang and Geo and curbs on freedom of expression would not be permitted.
He said that journalists always rendered sacrifices for the freedom of press and they would keep doing this in future as well.PFUJ’s Assistant Secretary General, Ziaul Haq, Jang Peshawar Resident Editor Malik Arshad Aziz, KHUJ’s Vice President Farmanullah Jan and other senior journalists attended the gathering.
