Women representatives support Bishop

Karachi: Representatives of the Women’s Synodical Church of Pakistan and members of civil society slammed the allegation on Reverend Sadiq Daniel leveled by the former administrator of Brenton Carey Hostel, Ghazala Shafique and called for an impartial inquiry into the matter.

The women representatives made the demand at a press conference held on Thursday evening. Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), president, Nuzhat Williams said that all allegations leveled by Shafique regarding the Bishop of the Diocese of Karachi and Balochistan were malicious. “She is trying to taint the image of our religious leader who is innocent. I therefore appeal to the chief justice to order an inquiry as the situation is creating undue stress among the Christian community,” she said.

“In 2005, Shafique was suspended from her administrative duties after she was found involved in immoral activities. She got the hostel inmates to tarnishing the image of our leader and registered false cases of mishandling and assault by the Bishop on herself and other girls,” she said.

Women’s Synodical Church of Pakistan, president Rebecca Reginald said that advocate Noor Naz Agha, on behest of Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement, had conducted an investigation into the matter and acquitted the bishop as he was not found guilty of any assault.
