Woman succumbs to birth pangs at hospital gate

JAMSHORO: A pregnant woman died in the Taluka Hospital, Thano Bula Khan, on Wednesday due to the sheer negligence of doctors, sparking protest by her relatives.

According to reports, 30-year-old Nooran, wife of Sooharo Pallari, resident of Thano Bula Khan, was brought to the Taluka Hospital while she was writhing about in birth pangs. Regrettably, she died at the hospital gate because there was no lady doctor on the duty.

Angered by the slackness of the lady doctors, hundreds of villagers and relatives of Nooran staged a protest demonstration against the hospital administration.

Meanwhile, Nawab Abdul Gani Talpur, MNA, met the bereaved family and assured them that he would take up the issue on the floor of the National Assembly.

Talpur told newsmen that there were two lady doctors in the Taluka Hospital – WMO Dr Najma Shaikh and DMO Dr Samina Shahid – but both were detailed in the Liaquat Hospital of Karachi. He regretted that there was no lady doctor for the entire Thano Bula Khan.

Talpur vowed that he would take up the issue in the National Assembly because the continuous absence of the lady doctors had led to a sharp increase in pregnancy-related deaths at the Taluka Hospital. He demanded of the federal minister for health to take stern action against the concerned lady doctors.

The executive district health officer (EDO) has also confirmed an increase in pregnancy-related deaths due to the absence of the two lady doctors from the Taluka Hospital Thano Bula Khan.
