Woman demands jobs for her daughters

KARACHI: Whenever elderly widow Malookan Pathan visited any politician in her native district Badin for any government job for her nine daughters, she was asked to pray so that they (politicians) come into power and help her out. But when they did eventually come into power, even meeting these politicians became impossible for her.
Malookan lives with her nine daughters and a minor son in a small house at Shahnawaz Chock, Badin, the hometown of National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfqar Mirza.
After becoming disappointed, she took her six daughters and came to Karachi to protest outside the Karachi Press Club. “The politicians say that there are no educated women, otherwise they would provide jobs to them in different sectors, but all my daughters are educated and three of them even hold masters degrees, but not given any job,” she said. Her husband died 10 years ago and since then she has faced many difficulties in feeding her daughters. Due to poverty, no marriage proposal has come for her daughters.
“We all spent the night at a shrine of a saint in Karachi and I demand the Sindh government to give jobs to my daughters,” she said.
Badin is on the top of the vulnerable list of international donors and the official ranking of government of Pakistan in terms of poverty and education.
