Man jailed for seven years in rape case

KARACHI: A sessions court sentenced a man on Tuesday to seven years in prison for raping a nine-year-old girl in 2001.

The court found Mohammad Qasim guilty of subjecting the girl to a sexual assault in the Ibrahim Hydri area in 2001.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (Malir) Jan Mohammad Langar pronounced his verdict after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides. The court also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 and in case of non-payment, the convict would have to undergo an additional three-month imprisonment.

According to the judgment, the prosecution has proved its case against the accused by producing ample evidence in court. It added that the victim had fully implicated the accused in her statement recorded by a judicial magistrate under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code and the same was corroborated with medical evidence.

The prosecution said the accused had raped the girl on Oct 13, 2001 when she came to his shop to buy some daily-use commodities. The accused was arrested the same day. Later, he was enlarged on bail.

The accused was remanded back to prison with a conviction warrant to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
