Witness statement recorded in Pearl case

KARACHI- A prosecution witness in Daniel Pearl case recorded his statement before the court by stating that American journalist had met Omar Sheikh on January, 23 at Village Restaurant, the very day when the reporter of Wall Street Journal disappeared, according to the police.

Police produced Omar Sheikh, the main suspect in Daniel Pearl case before the court of Judicial Magistrate South, Erum Jehangir. Saiful Malook, the suspect’s lawyer, who has come from Lahore requested for the adjournment of recording the statement of the witness, as he has not been the copies of the of the suspects statements. Besides, he also requested for separate meeting with his client but the judge dismissed his request. However, the judge allowed the advocate to meet his client in the court and the meeting lasted 45 minutes, according to police press statement.

A taxi driver, Nasir Abbas told the court that on January 23, Daniel Pearl sat in his taxi while his two women colleagues sat in another taxi. As they reached Village Restaurant, a white Toyota Corolla car was standing there and Omar Sheikh whisked away Daniel Pearl. While, the lawyer told the journalists that his client as pleaded his innocence.
