US ambassador calls on Sherry
ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W Patterson called on Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman here on Friday.
During the meeting, both the dignitaries discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation. The minister apprised the ambassador of the vision of the new government for the freedom of media and welfare of journalists in the country.
Sherry said: “Women empowerment, press freedom and protection of minorities’ rights in the country are the top priorities of the government as envisioned by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.”
Ambassador Patterson said the US wanted to build long-term and multifaceted strong relations with Pakistan. She emphasised the need for expanded cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic sector. Patterson appreciated the efforts of the new government to deregulate the media and increase public access to information.
