Government to cut law enforcers’ salaries for human rights violations
KARACHI (April 13 2008): The Federal government is considering to deduct salaries of law enforce if the latter is convicted violating the human rights. Federal Minister for Law, Justice, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs, Farooq H Naek stated this in a meeting here at Regional Office of Human Rights Department in Sindh Secretariat on Saturday.
The meeting, which was organised by Human Rights Department of Sindh Government, was conducted to discuss issues related to human rights violations in Pakistan. Keeping this in view, the federal government is pondering to establish Injury Compensation Board (ICB) to compensate those, who were victimised by law enforcers.
The federal minister said the law enforcement agencies had reportedly been committed numerous infringements in the human rights laws. In view of this, Farooq said the federal government was considering the establishment of ICB. The Board, he said, would pay compensation to those who would fall prey to human rights violations committed by the law enforcers.
He further elaborated about ICB, saying that, “If any enforcer found in committing violations, board would issue charge sheet, which would be attached in accused enforcer’s service record besides, allowing to cut salary as penalty.
He urged NGOs to put the human rights violation cases on the table, which would help government to facilitate victims at the maximum. He said that every discriminative law, which helps violators to commit human rights violations, would be eliminated on priority basis. He said, “No one should suffer because of court,” adding that federal government would also facilitate those prisoners, who had not been released because of non-payment of penalty amount. He added that this decision would also help minimise the over crowding position of jails.
