Unionists slam Geo blackout
KARACHI: Trade unionists have condemned the government action to blackout Geo TV and said the action would encourage anarchy. They have demanded immediate restoration of Geo Channel as the TV channel has been providing genuine stories to the common man. They said the government tried to block the access of the common man to genuine information.
All Pakistan Trade Union Organization Acting President Habibuddin Junaidi said this is was the last thing which the government could do to suppress the electronic media.“This step of the government is tantamount to strangle the voice of public but the regime should keep in focus that this is the war that it would never win.” he said. He added that blackout of the Geo means to blackout an independent channel. He said the government wants that people should have access to only those channels that telecast programmes what the rulers desire. “Such steps could not restrict the masses right to access information,” Junaidi said. Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research Director Karamat Ali said the channel should be restored immediately. Labour Party Pakistan central leader Nasir Mansoor said blocking Geo TV belied claims of free media.
