Union council nazim observes hunger strike

ATTOCK, June 6: The union council Attock city-II Nazim Rana Shaukat Ali Khan along with Naib Nazim Dr Sheikh Waseem Saddique and like-minded councillors observed four hours token hunger strike from 11 am to 3pm here on Wednesday at Madni Chowk to press for his demands.

Besides labour leaders and workers, the local lawyers including President District Bar Association Attock Rana Afsar Ali Khan, Sheikh Ehsanuddin advocate and opposition leaders visited hunger strike camp and remained with them for some time.

Talking to local newsmen at the camp, Mr Rana alleged that his group had won the election of UC Attock-II by defeating the ruling party candidates in the last local bodies elections, that is why his constituency was being neglected.

He said he had brought the matter to the government notice a year ago besides raising the issue a number of times at district council sessions and other public forums but to no avail.

Tehsil Nazim refutes charges: Earlier Tehsil Nazim Qazi Khalid Mehmood at a press conference at Tehsil Municipal Administration’s hall refuted the allegations of UC Nazim Rana Shaukat Ali Khan and termed his hunger strike a cheep publicity ploy.

The tehsil nazim claimed that about Rs35 million had been provided for different development schemes of Attock-II union council.

He said that proposals of Attock-II UC Naib Nazim, Dr Waseem Siddique had been accommodated besides facilitating his persons in various recruitments. Despite all these, their hunger strike is not understandable and unjustified, he regretted.

Mr Mehmood said, rehabilitation of city roads would be started in next few days after award of contracts besides construction of two modern fountains in the city at Fawwara Chowk and in front of Liaquat Ali Khan Hockey stadium.

Measures are being taken to ensure pure drinking water besides improving the sewerage system, he claimed.
