UNESCO chief praises Hayatullah
UNITED NATIONS – The head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization condemned the murder of a Pakistani journalist as a ‘heinous crime’ against basic human rights, giving international dimension to his case. The victim, Hayatullah Khan, was kidnapped from Mir Ali in North Waziristan on 5 December. His body was found hand cuffed and shot in the back of the ‘head in the same area on June 23. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Hayatullah Khan had received numerous threats because of his reporting.
Khan’s murder deprives Pak and the world of a journalist who showed integrity and courage in his commitment to the profession, UNESCO Director-General Ko_chiro Matsuura said in a statement in Paris.
