KARACHI: The Sindhi translation of a collection of articles by the late Sabihuddin Ghousi, a journalist associated with Dawn for decades, was launched at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.

‘Khushhal Sindh, badhaal manhun’ has been translated and compiled in a book form by Hamsafar Gadahi.

The organisers of the book launch informed the audience that Mr Ghousi wrote scores of articles on various issues concerning the economy and economic issues of Sindh in English for a local Sindhi fortnightly, which translated and published them for more than two years till his death in March 2009.

The late writer’s wife, friends, colleagues and writers spoke about Mr Ghousi’s personality and his contribution to society through his writings. “For me his death was a great personal loss. He was a treasure of courage for me and for many of his colleagues as well,” Mrs Ghousi said in her brief speech.

“He was an excellent writer and among the pioneers of writing on economic issues and problems relating to Sindh with the common man’s perspective,” said writer Naseer Memon.

Mr Gadahi said that Mr Ghousi wrote on a variety of topics, ranging from federation-province relations to the effects of Talibanisation on Sindh.

Journalists Aziz Shaikh, Naseer Aijaz, Nazeer Laghari, Maqsood Yusufi and Saeed Sarbazi also spoke.

Rakhial Morai moderated the programme and KPC president Imtiaz Khan Faran welcomed the audience.
