TheNation photographer ‘snapped’ from scene
KARACHI – Senior photographer of The Nation Nazeeruddin Siddiqui was thrashed by the police prior to picking him up on Monday, while he was performÂing his duty out the Karachi Press Club.
Till the filing of this report, neither the government nor the police officials were ready to divulge any detail about the whereabouts of Nazeeruddin. However, they hinted at the possibility of getting ‘relic f’ from the top offiÂcials of the Federal Capital.
According to details, Nazecruddin was performing his duty outside the KPC when members of the civil society were protesting against the imposition of emergency. The police clashed with the activists, while Nazeeruddin was taking photographs of police highhandedness. All of sudden, the cops tortured Nazeeruddin, and later bundled him into their van, and shifted him to an undisclosed location.
When contacted, the government officials, including the senior policemen as well, expressed their ignorance about the torture at the hands of their subordinates and Nazeeruddin’s whereabouts. However, they hinted at the possibility that only the top officials in Islamabad could resolve the issue. Despite hectic efforts, the police officials did not acknowledge the detenÂtion of the senior photographer.
The KPC representatives have strongly condemned Nazeeruddin’s arrest and three journalists, while demanding their immediate release.
