The shutdown in Dubai

ARY and Geo TV channels have been wrapped up in Dubai due to immense pressure by the government of Pakistan. These channels have been ordered to shut down their businesses and transmissions by the authorities of the concerned country from where it was aired. I am very worried by the direct foreign intervention in the internal affairs of Pakistan. These completely uncalled-for intrusions by the princes of the Middle East are damaging the struggle for political and democratic process of Pakistan. The Saudis and Lebanese had also mishandled the whole matter of Nawas Sharif’s exile and return right from the very first day. They are now hindering the much-awaited homecoming of this true leader of the Pakistani nation.

These unfriendly gestures against the people of Pakistan will never be forgotten. The question, of course, arises that why did these channels opted to start their transmissions from UAE?

The answer is that they wanted to stay away from dictators and their undue pressures and threats. UAE government earned a lot from these channels in terms of money, prestige, promotion, marketing etc. But when the hard times came, the UAE government didn’t take the pressure.
