The emperor – and the media

RAWALPINDI: Feisal Naqvi’s article “The media and the emperor’s clothes” (July 5) does a very good job in contextualising the need for critical thinking. The reference to Aitchison, in search of critical thinking, is however disappointing.

Aitchison is a school for the elite by the elite to which hardly 0.01 per cent of Pakistanis have access. And it is designed to churn out ‘leading followers’ to perpetuate the rule of elite in one form or the other. It has no alumni who became leading statesmen, scientists or researchers except perhaps Imran Khan and even his fame is not all attributable to Aitchison. If the land, which I am sure was gifted by the state, is sold and the proceeds are invested in setting up the Punjab government’s albeit controversial ‘Danish’ schools, chances are that there would be better results from this learning situation.
