The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has constituted two election tribunals in Sindh for hearing appeals against the decisions of returning officers (ROs) vis-‡-vis rejection or approval of nomination papers by candidates for the January 8 general elections.

The first tribunal comprises of Justice Nadeem Azhar Sidduqi and Justice Dr Rana Mohammad Shamim. The said tribunal will hear appeals of candidates who were aspiring to contest polls from constituencies for National Assembly seats including NA-198 Sukkur-Shikarpur-I (Old Sukkur-I) to NA-217 Khairpur-III, NA-226 Mirpurkhas-Umerkot-I (Old Mirpurkhas-I) to NA-230 Tharparkar-II, NA-234 Sanghar-I to NA-236 Sanghar-II(Old Sanghar-III).

The same tribunal will hear appeals against decisions of ROs from Provincial Assembly constituencies including PS-I Sukkur-I to PS-42 Kamber-Shahdadkot-III (Old Larkana-VIII), PS-60 Tharparkar-I to PS-70 Umerkot-II (Old Mirpurkhas-VII), PS-78 Sanghar-I to PS-83 Sanghar-VI.

Besides this, the tribunal will hear appeals on reserved seats for non-Muslims in the Provincial Assembly in Sindh. The second tribunal comprises Justice Khawaja Naveed Ahmed and Justice Khalid Ali Z Qazi, who will hear appeals against decisions of ROs from NA-218 Matiari-Hyderabad (old Hyderabad-I) to NA-225 Badin- Tando Mohammad Khan-II, NA-231 Jamshoro (Old Dadu-I) to NA-233 Dadu-II (Old Dadu-III), NA-237 Thatta-I to NA-258 Karachi-XX.

The same tribunal will hear appeals of Provincial Assembly candidates from PS-43 Matiari (old Hyderabad-I) to PS-59 Badin-Tando Mohammad Khan-III (Old Badin-V),PS-71 Jamshoro-I (Old Dadu-VII) to PS-77 Dadu-IV (Old Dadu-VII), PS-84 Thatta-I to PS-130 Karachi XLII.

The said tribunal will also hear appeals against the decision of ROs on reserved seats for women in National Assembly and Sindh Assembly. According to the ECP’s notification, December 12 is the last date of filing of appeals against rejection of nomination papers while the tribunals will dispose of appeal petitions on December 14.
