State put on notice for 15th in Pearl case

KARACHI- A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Musheer Alam 4th of October 2002 issued notice to State for October 15 while hearing a constitutional petition Fazle Karim in connection with the murder case of Daniel Pearl slain Bureau Chief of Wall Street Journal (South Africa).

Rehana, wife of alleged detenue moved the court though counsel Khawaja Naveed Ahmed advocate alleging that her husband who was driver of Maulana Sauood Fattani, was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) police on 14-5-2002 from the gate of Masjid-e-Tauheed.

Khawaja Naveed Ahmed advocate maintained that Fazal-e-Karim was not produced before any court of law since then while three brothers and a brother in law of Sauood Fattani, absconding accused in Daniel Pearl kidnapping and murder case have been released by the police two months back.

The petitioner maintains that police has not contradicted news items appearing in local press about arrest and custody of the alleged detenue.

The petitioner prayed to the court to order production of the detenue before the court and to release him.

Inspector Fayyaz of Crime Investigation Department (CID) Civil Lines PS, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Investigation (Homicide) and Home Secretary Sindh are cited as respondents in the petition.
