Shujaat, Mushahid greet CPNE new office-bearers
ISLAMABAD – President of Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Secretary General Mushahid Husssain Syed have extended warm felicitations to the newly elected office-bearers of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE).
In their joint message issued here on Sunday to Arif Nizami, President, and Khushnood Ali Khan, Secretary General of the Council, they said that their election would be a positive step in improving media relations with the government as well as preserving and protecting freedom of the press.
Both Ch Shujaat and Mushahid underlined that the PML had a firm and unwavering commitment to promote the independence of media and to protect the freedom of the press, without which a democratic political system couldn’t flourish. They said they also strongly feel that the print and electronic media should be allowed to operate freely without any fetters. They underlined their continued cooperation to both in the struggle for free and independent media, which is the basis of any civilised democracy.
