SHC issues notices to AG, Pemra
The Sindh High Court Wednesday issued notices to Attorney General, Advocate General Sindh, Interior Ministry and PEMRA on the two constitutional petitions by a private TV channel against the restrictions on private TV channels.
Two-member bench comprising Justice Muneeb Ahmed and Justice Abdur Rehman Farooq Pirzadah heard the constitutional petitions filed by the TV channel.
The TV lawyer Mohammed Ali Mazhar said before the court that his petition did not consider the emergency or PCO, as it is pertinent to only PEMRA Ordinance. He said PEMRA was there to monitor as to which channnel was violating the ordinance.
He said that PEMRA clauses were applicable to only news channels, but the channels of entertainment of the TV Network had been put off air too, which was causing heavy monetary loss to channels.
After the arguments were over, the court issued the notices to AG, AGS, Interior Ministry and PEMRA and adjourned the hearing till November 16.
He said that even though the fundamental rights are suspended; however, the constitution Article-18 related with the right to business is not suspended.
